Comparative Effectiveness of Adjunctive Mechanical Thrombectomy Devices Versus PCI Alone in Patients With ACS

Thirty-seven unique RCTs evaluated the impact of thrombectomy or embolic protection devices versus a control on final, intermediate, or adverse health outcomes when used as an adjunct to PCI when compared with PCI alone in patients with STEMI. Of these 37 trials, 5 trials (n = 1,374) evaluated the impact of mechanical thrombectomy devices. One RCT evaluated the impact of mechanical thrombectomy devices versus a control on mortality in patients with STEMI or UA. Two controlled observational studies evaluated the association between the use of a mechanical thrombectomy device and various final or intermediate outcomes.
