Adjunctive Devices for Patients With Acute Coronary Syndromes Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
Explanation of Distal Balloon Embolic Protection Devices Included in the CER
Distal balloon embolic protection devices are similar to proximal devices, except they employ an occlusion balloon advanced over a guidewire distal to the thrombus in order to trap and aspirate thrombotic debris released during angioplasty and stenting procedures. Distal balloon embolic protection devices included in the CER were the PercuSurge GuardWire® and the PercuSurge GuardWireTM Plus.
