The first-generation antipsychotics included in the review are:

  • Chlorpromazine (Thorazine®)
  • Fluphenazine (Permitil®, Prolixin®)
  • Haloperidol (Haldol®)
  • Perphenazine (Trilafon®)
  • Trifluoperazine (Stelazine®)
  • Thioridazine (Mellaril®)

As of the date of this review, nine second-generation antipsychotics have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration:

  • Asenapine (Saphris®)
  • Clozapine (Clozaril®, FazaClo®)
  • Iloperidone (Fanapt®)
  • Olanzapine (Zyprexa®)
  • Paliperidone (Invega®)
  • Quetiapine (Seroquel®)
  • Risperidone (Risperdal®)
  • Ziprasidone (Geodon®)
