Classifications of Osteoporosis and Low Bone Density

BMD is classified according to the T-score, which is the number of standard deviations above or below the mean BMD for healthy adults, as determined by DXA. A T-score of -2.5 or less is classified as osteoporosis. A T-score between -2.5 and -1.0 is considered LBD. A T-score of 1 or greater is considered normal.
