Comparative Effectiveness of Therapies for Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders

This slide set is based on a comparative effectiveness review titled, Comparative Effectiveness of Therapies for Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders, that was developed by the Vanderbilt University Evidence-based Practice Center for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ Contract No. 290-2007-10065-I) and is available online at www.effectivehealthcare.ahrq.gov/autism1.cfm. CERs represent comprehensive systematic reviews of the literature and usually compare two or more types of treatment, such as different drugs, for the same condition. For the CER on therapies for children with autism spectrum disorders, primary clinical trials published between January 1, 2000, through May 30, 2010, were identified from searches of MEDLINE®, PsycINFO (psychology and psychiatry literature), and the Education Resources Information Center (ERIC). A search of the Web sites of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Health Canada, and ClinicalTrials.gov was also conducted for information on aripiprazole and risperidone. This CER included 159 unique studies.
